Potter Cemetery

Potter Cemetery is located at Potter's Point in eastern Marion County, Texas. It was established in 1842 when Robert Potter was murdered not far from this location in the East Texas Regulator / Moderator War. He was shot in the back as he dove into Caddo Lake on March 2, 1842.
In October 1928 he was re-interred in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin in recognition of his service to the Republic of Texas.
Less than a dozen markers are in the cemetery, but various records indicate other interrments there.
This property is managed by the Gray Cemetery Association, which also oversees Gray and Core Cemeteries.
